Findings are recorded as the source states them, and each older work carries what it did for the field and where its claim stands today.

The research journey, by year of publication

The three epochs. 1996 to 2005 established the question, 2006 to 2015 established the prevalence, and 2016 to 2026 has tested the causal claim. Works in the two earlier epochs carry two extra fields: what the work did for the field at the time, and where its claim stands today. A work marked as still holding has survived later and better designs; one marked refined was broadly right and has been superseded in precision; one marked contested is disputed now. Lineage links run between works where a later study superseded, replicated or overturned an earlier one, and only where that link was confirmed.

Reading the record. Tier one marks work the field treats as landmark or definitive; tier two is solid contributory evidence; tier three is context and commentary. Foundational covers 1988 to 2015, core covers 2016 to 2026. A contested flag means the finding is actively disputed in the literature, and the dispute is named in the record.
